2023 Synod Report

On May 26, 27 and 28, the Diocese of Ontario held its 145th Synod. St. Philip’s Anglican Church in Milford was very well represented by our Synod Representatives – Alfie and Gord Deyo. The Deyo’s have been our reps for this their second Synod, and were glad that this year Synod was able to meet in person. The 2021 synod was held over ZOOM with our area’s representative gathering at St. Mary Magdalene, in Picton.

Alfie presented her report on the 145th Synod to St. Philip’s at our service on Sunday, June 18. To read Alfie’s report please click HERE.

Alfie tells us in her report that meeting at Queen’s Biosciences’ Building Atrium was wonderful – it was open and bright, and being surrounded by trees brought a certain lightness and energy to the room. As Alfie says about the meeting:  “Planning was superb;  meetings, presentations, prayers, breaks and so forth happened right as scheduled!  The organizers took care of all our concerns such as accommodations and then had us seated with closely  neighbouring parishes which have much the same demographic and problems as ourselves.  Camaraderie was so good!

The Synod guest presenter was Bishop Susan Bell, of the Diocese of Niagara, and her sessions were focused on Mission & Ministry.

As you will read in Alfie’s report, Bishop Bell had a theme for her talks. Here, Bishop Bell is accompanied by Rev Lynn Mitchell on guitar, as they lead Synod members in song.

Here are some photos from the day, taken by Alfie. As you can see and read in Alfie’s report, it was an inspiring Synod. To quote Alfie, speaking for her and Gord “We had such a great time!!”
